This section will focus on the maintenance of gravel roads. The focus here is on very low volume roads, such as driveways and private logging roads. My motivation for writing this page has been the high percentage of gravel roads I see in need of repair. It is my feeling that a well maintained road costs less overall than rehabilitating a neglected road. There are already many good sources of information available to aid in the upkeep of gravel roads, but here my attempt is to provide a simple and easy to understand reference highlighting some of the biggest problems I see here in northwest Oregon. The information here is a composite of knowledge and techniques that I have been taught or read as well as my own ideas from maintaining my own gravel roads and roadwork I have done for others. I, the author of this page, am not to be held liable for any information that is incorrect or omitted. |
